Appy

For those of you who never check out the About page on profiles I don't make a living from street photography. This is mostly because hardly anyone does. My day-to-day life revolves around working as a developer for a company with a number of clients whose development requirements are many and varied; luckily my skills are many and varied so I'm a good fit for this role. Amongst my skills is app development. You won't have seen or used any of my apps because they tend to be very specific to the clients' needs and, typically, the client decides they need something truly awful that nobody in their right mind would use. They pay; they're the boss. Still, I do like to tinker with writing apps in my spare time just to keep my coding skills fresh and I've found that the best beta testers are random members of the public. Today, I offered a woman passing by the chance to try out a little app I'd whipped up that allows for autotuning of buskers up to ten metres away (this app uses GPS and requires access to your geolocation data). She was appy (that's a pun and you're welcome to use it as you see fit) to test it out and immediately set to work adjusting the timbre of a rather annoying, male guitarist/warbler nearby. Sadly, the busker became convinced he was possessed by demons and ran amok in the precinct causing tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage and hospitalising a dozen. That's the sort of thing that stops an app getting through the approval process so it'll need tweaking before release. Spotted In The Street

I was spotted. I used to deal with this using the technique of holding the position or tracking slowly and pretending to shoot other things just behind or to one side of where I had really been pointing, hoping that the subject would assume they'd inadvertently wandered into shot or they were mistaken and weren't the target of my photographic affections anyway. But that was before I discovered Brick-In-A-Sock (tm) and its amazing memory-wiping ability. Now, with Brick-In-A-Sock (tm) I'm free to shoot who I want, where I want, when I want, how I want, safe in the knowledge that anybody who looks at me funny won't remember a thing the following day. Rock, Paper, Scissors

People often ask me: "Mark, how did you get to be so good at Rock, Paper, Scissors and what's your secret to being picked to represent the United Kingdom year after year?" Well, the key word – especially for all you kids looking to take up the sport – is dedication. I'm dedicated to cheating by any means possible. Take today, for instance, when I spot (okay: invited to Chichester under false pretences) my first round rival at this Summer's games, Bulgarian champion Stefan Getemov walking past nonchalantly: a simple light tinkling of a bell – the same sort of bell used to start all tournament competitions – was all it took for Stefan's reflexes to kick in and for him to give away his opening response. Oh, Stefan, paper is going to beat rock, I'm afraid. Google+: View post on...

Muerte Punk

Another fruitless day looking for interesting shoes out and about so I've had to rely on something from the archives once more and it's no surprise that it's another pair of my wife's shoes because, well, she has a fair few. However, just to show that she doesn't just wear Jimmy Choos here's something a bit different: Muerte Punk from Iron Fist in this instance. Stewed, Screwed, and Tattooed

Much like this man in the middle of being kidnapped by the little girl photographed here I also like to wear t-shirts that describe me for people who need a little help in making their minds up upon first meeting; this is why I often sport slogans such as "Grumpy Geezer", "Unfriendly Sort, Ain't He?", and "Stealing Your Wallet While You're Reading This".
