Lunchtime Portrait

This lunchtime as I settled in under Chichester Cross I was called out to by a woman who, along with two male companions, appeared to be – but may not have been – homeless and/or – let's say – someone not averse to partaking in illegal means of achieving highs and lows. May not have been, I'm reiterating, but, well, you sometimes just get a hunch. This woman wanted to know what I was doing. I told her I was taking photos. What of? Things, people, I answered. People? She seemed puzzled and wanted to know why. I told her that people were interesting and tried to take a picture of her; she held up a hand in the way and told me that was weird. I told her that weird was interesting and she seemed to shrug and accept that. And then she let down her guard and I took this shot. She didn't seem bothered. I'd like to think that she wasn't making a gun symbol with her hand for me. Submitted for #PortraitTuesday curated by +Laura Balc. Google+: View post on...

Honeycomb

Obviously, it's not really honeycomb, unless the Borg aren't particularly fussy about the species they assimilate. But what is it? Well, one thing it is for certain is a submission for #RepetitiveTuesday curated by +Frank Schillinger. Google+: View post on...

Coffee Hair

It was bright and clear today but the cold breeze from the northeast was a trifle unpleasant so it was no surprise to see a woman warming herself with a coffee in the sunshine. Luckily for me I caught her at the same moment as the wind did. Submitted for #MonochromeMonday curated by +Charles Lupica, +Bill Wood, and +Hans Berendsen. Google+: View post on...

Silver Boots

I had a bit of a look today for something that would fit in with the #ShoesMonday theme curated by +Olga Kafka and +Laura Harding and, truth be told, there were a few nice examples. However, If I'd tried to take those particular photos there's a very good chance it would have resulted in screaming, I'd have been set upon by an angry mob, and I'd be sitting here absently rubbing the still-sore PERVERT branded across my forehead. Chichester is not a tolerant city. And I'm not very brave. I did eventually chance a shot as a girl approached down North Street wearing what could best be described as "an eclectic mix" of clothing and sporting these rather in-your-face silver boots. Fashion Faves – Karlie Kloss

There are two elements to this shoot by Mario Testino of Karlie Kloss for Vogue UK that I just love. The first of those isn’t difficult to guess as I’ve made no secret of my love for all things retro and that’s the set decoration, fashion, and photo treatment which gives this a beautiful 1970s feel. The second element is the odd – but oddly satisfying – use of motion in the shots, leaving Karlie falling in every shot. I’m not sure why it works, but it...
