Bugsy Malone Triple

What happens when you watch a programme like Let’s Dance For Sports Relief on BBC1 on a Saturday evening? You then put three videos from Bugsy Malone on your website the following morning. I guess you had to be there to understand why. So You Wanna Be A Boxer ZIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG! Down And Out What’s the matter with you? Fat Sam’s Grand Slam There’s a politician, sitting by the...

Charles Dickens Music Triple

Charles Dickens… music… triple? Did he write any music? No, no he didn’t. However, there’s a bit of a Dicken’s celebration taking place round about now and his birthplace, Portsmouth, just so happens to be mine too. More importantly than that, however, I could do with breaking up some of these photo posts with something different and you don’t get much more different than music videos with extremely tenuous links to the great author. Chuck Berry – Carol As in A Christmas Carol. Naturally. Paris – Rainy Day in London Can anyone say “A Tale Of Two Cities“? Thought I was quite clever here. No? Well, who asked you? Curiosity Shoppe Band – Raspberry Beret From Martin Chuzzlewit who liked eating raspberries and wearing berets. Honestly. Read...

Bad Music Triple

Yep, I’m sharing a trio of music videos featuring bad music. Now, why would I do that? It’s possible that I hate you. Very possible. It’s possible that I fell over and hit my head. Less possible as I’m quite careful. It’s possible that I like this music even though – to me – it’s bad. Highly unlikely. But, as it turns out, true. These are songs that I shouldn’t like… but I do. Faith Evans – Mesmerized I loathe R’n’B music. Loathe it. And they’ve only gone and spelt ‘mesmerised’ in its American form. The cheek of it. Cracking song though. Girls Aloud – Love Machine I do not like Girls Aloud. I don’t fancy any of them. I would never buy any of their tracks. But I can sing along to this so long as nobody can see me. Heart – These Dreams Who likes power ballads? Not me, that’s for damn sure. But my fist will clench and my hair will become magically back-combed (in my mind) when this song enters my head...

Foreign Music Triple

You know what you want? You want some music videos sung in a foreign language; that’s what you want. Unless you’re not a native English-speaker. But, let’s assume that you are a native English-speaking individual… or hive mind (let’s not discriminate against my key hive mind demographic); you want some lilting, foreign tongue and tunes. You really do. Juana Molina – Quien If you only watch one of these videos then make it this one; stunning studio performance. Habibi – Aman Da Bey There are a couple of really, really, really nice things in this video. The range of outfits and the video transitions, of course. What did you think I meant? Karm – Tinka Tinka Zara Zara A beautiful song sung beautifully, and quite possibly inspired by Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Equally possibly...

College Music Triple

Three videos that have one thing in common is what this post is all about and that thing in common is: college. Specifically, music that I remember being popular or unpopular but played anyway while I was a college. If you went to college at the same time as me then maybe these can count as college music for you too, but it’s fairly likely that that’s not true at all. In that case feel free to come up with your own descriptive terms for this trio of musical delights all by yourself. Echo & The Bunnymen – Seven Seas Sugarcubes – Regina D Mob – Put Your Hands...
