The Busker's Shoes
I was determined to get a pair of shoes shot today because I knew it was #ShoesMonday curated by +Laura Harding and +Olga Kafka, and it had been my intention to capture something flash and elegant, probably at the very end of a lady's leg as it swooshed through Chichester. Alas, it wasn't to be a swooshy shoe kind of day. In the end I caught this pair of Adidas supporting a busker performing some tunes admirably to the passing shoppers and lunchtime office-escapees. Also submitted for #MonochromeMonday which has come under the curatorship (I don't care if that's not an actual word) of +Charles Lupica, +Hans Berendsen, and +Bill Wood. Google+: View post on...
Street Corner, Beijing, 2008
Another shot that I never processed or uploaded anywhere, taken in Beijing, November 2008 on the old Canon EOS 350D. I do wonder why I never bothered to do anything with this before since I look at it now and think: yes, that's my sort of shot; it's got people doing peopley things and there's plenty of interest (well, to me at least) everywhere; crossed arms man, handbag-holding man, mobile phone guys, seated girls, Nike shoes, Adidas tops and sweatbands… I've only completed looking through one day of the honeymoon photos so far; can't wait to see what else I overlooked. Woman, Shadows, Beijing, 2008
Just having a nose through some old folders this morning – specifically those around our honeymoon in November of 2008 in Asia – and I discovered that there are dozens and dozens of photos that I took but never decided to process or upload, this being one of them. Of course, I was younger and more inexperienced around photography then and probably thought that this photo of an old Chinese woman sitting on a stone plinth was no good as you couldn't see her face thanks to the shadows; now, this photo appeals to me so much more. Weird how attitudes to aesthetics changes over time. What I would have given to not have that car in the background but c'est la vie and there's no use moaning about it now. Submitted for #ShadowsOnSunday curated by +André Roßbach and +Daniel Graupner. Google+: View post on...
Sunset
I uploaded this as part of an album earlier this week but I've only just seen that there's a #SunsetSaturday theme curated by +TJ Kelly and – since the photo garnered some appreciation on Flickr – I thought I'd reshare it. The photo is taken from the roof of the multi-storey car park where I park my car (who'd have thought it?) near where I work; the sky on this evening was a rainbow of colours and I was just pleased to be able to get a semi-decent shot of it before the sun went down. One Man And His Carrot
I tend to eat my lunch at my desk while working and then pop out for a full hour's worth of walking and shooting at lunchtime afterwards but others will either simply take their lunch break at their desk (which seems crazy to me since you'll always get a phone call or some other pressure to do some actual work if you do that) or they'll head outside and get away from the office toil. This man, spotted yesterday, was clearly one of the lattermost of those groups; I imagine his work was fairly stressful as he took some considerable time to munch through the large, raw carrot that he'd unwrapped from his aluminium foil package, all the while staring across the road at nothing in particular as people and buses passed by. A Little Bit Of Nature
I felt like getting away from street photography today and since it was quite welcoming for a change I decided to take in a little bit of nature. Admittedly, there are some dead and dying leaves in this album but some flowers were out and some buds were growing, possibly due to the relative mildness of the past few days when compared to just a week ago. To finish there was a spectacularly lovely sunset as I left work and walked to the car park, and as I drove westwards on the way home it was hard to keep from glancing up into the fiery red sky that led the way.
