Homeless Man
For #StreetSaturday curated by +Siddharth Pandit. A regular sight in Chichester is this man, apparently homeless, and I dread to think how he's coping with the temperatures we currently have around these parts; I hope he has a regular place to stay overnight. I've never spoken to him but he seems pleasant enough; never drunk, never shouting, never angry, just wandering around minding his own business usually. I've seen him eating outside a café before and I've heard from colleagues that one of the local Chinese restaurants usually allow him to eat whatever's left over at the end of their regular "all you can eat" lunchtime deals. Nice to hear, and sad at the same time. Google+: View post on...
Jimmy Choo Shoes
For #SaturdayStyle curated by +lynn langmade and +lane langmade. First off: I'm not a product photographer. I know, I know; it's very, very difficult to tell from this masterfully-composed and photographed shot on a towel on the bed, but it's true nonetheless. So, Jimmy Choo shoes: specifically, the most recently bought of the four pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes that my wife now owns, these ones being picked up in Chevy Chase, Maryland when we were over there in November (nice-looking place albeit with a paranoid cop who followed us around asking what I was shooting and then waited in the Jimmy Choo store to make sure we weren't about to rob the place until the security guard there effectively told him to sod off and stop bothering her store's customers). My wife loves Jimmy Choo shoes. They make her feel better about herself – a sign of great style – and they encourage other people to make ooh and aah noises when they see them. Bus Windows
I actually remembered some of the themes that were running today so actively sought out things to fit (I'm not often that organised) and managed to take several photos that qualified for #WindowWednesday . This, however, was my favourite from the day simply because it held the most number of interesting (well, to me) things in it: a bus at the stop in West Street, Chichester about to pull away. Also submitted for +Monthly PAD Challenge, day 8. Google+: View post on...
Roly
We shifted position to North Street, today, because of a lack of photo opportunities and it was while we were standing around, waiting for something wonderful to appear that I spotted the subject of today's photo. His name's Roly and while it may look like he's a down-and-out that's mostly down to my playing around with Photoshop this evening; he's actually my brother's brother-in-law (or my sister-in-law's brother, if you prefer) and he was out with his wife in the cold sunshine that Chichester bathed in on his day off today. You'll notice my skill in getting that perfect portrait moment with the eyes closed. I did actually get some other shots where he's looking at me but I liked this one the best. Betty Boop
The area in Portsmouth in which I live is called North End and in North End there is a shop called Squirrels which sells some antiques but mostly Betty Boop memorabilia, vintage posters/signs, and Christian objects (prayer cards, Jesus statues, etc.) It's a very Christian place with very friendly (if, perhaps, a trifle odd (that's sometimes putting it mildly)) staff and with loads of pictures on the walls of where they help people in Iraq, for instance, and this Christian attitude carried on through to their shop window where – for what must have been a year, at least – there was a board where the smashed glass had been that simply said "God loves you", a message to the vandals who'd taken umbrage at something or other. Obviously, sales finally picked up enough for them recently to enable them to replace the window and you can now see inside which is why I took this shot as I made to cross over the road next to it today. For the +Monthly PAD Challenge, Day 6. Also, for #monochromemonday because it's monochrome and Monday. Yeah, I know these things work. Google+: View post on...
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
For #SignSunday curated by +walt sprinkle and +Gene Bowker. It's Super Bowl Sunday (come on New England!) and that means one thing in our house: we embrace all things American; coffee brewing, popcorn picked up, bags of M&Ms ready, hot dogs awaiting the signal to be eaten, bourbon giving me that drink me look, and twelve assorted Krispy Kreme doughnuts fresh from the store this morning. Picking up the doughnuts was a bit of a chore today. The encounter went a little like this: Us: We'll have that one, that one, two of those, two of those, that one, that one, two of those, that one, … Doughnut Girl: That's too many. Us: Really? Should only be eleven so far. Doughnut Girl: Look. (Shows us filled box) Us: What are those two? (Pointing at two odd-looking doughnuts) Doughnut Girl: Raspberry. Us: We didn't want them. Doughnut Girl: Oh, okay. (Apparently puts them back) Us: Okay, so we'll finish with that one and that… Doughnut Girl: That will be too many. Us: What? (Looks at box) Is that a raspberry one still there? Doughnut Girl: Yes. Us: But we didn't want any raspberry ones. Doughnut Girl: Oh, you didn't want any? Shall I put it back? Us: Yes! (We finish picking doughnuts) Doughnut Girl: Will you be eating in? Us: Twelve doughnuts between two of us?! Eat in?! Are you mental?! (We pay and leave the store) We're going home to eat them between us. Google+: View post on...
