I Can't Put My Finger On It
Back to the street now with my favourite lens (F/2.8L 100mm) and Chichester still hasn't picked up too much in volume of pedestrians at lunch time since after the Christmas/New Year break which is making interesting photo opportunities hard to come by. Today, though, I did watch these two chatting for a while as the older man clearly asked the younger for directions somewhere; there was some dithering on the younger's part as he thought about the exact location and I managed to catch this moment of nose-scratching (traditional aid to navigational memory) during the process. And you'll be pleased to hear that it looked like once he'd remembered he decided to escort the older gentleman on his way. Damn nice to see. Google+: View post on...
Shot Into The Sun
Wide angle lens and shooting directly into the sun? Yes, I must have been feeling experimental today. It's probably the Arctic temperatures seeping into my brain. For #MonochromeMonday curated by +Siddharth Pandit. Google+: View post on...
Listening To The Busker
For #StreetSaturday curated by +Siddharth Pandit. Three people listening to a very good blues busker playing right next to me; at this particular instance I think some Eric Clapton was blasting out and entertaining all around. Google+: View post on...
Back To Nature
I got out to lunch late today which meant that the lunchtime crowd had long-since departed the scene making finding inspiration in the street photography a little more difficult than normal. But the sun was out, there wasn't a cloud in the sky, the wind was light, and it was mild(ish) so I took a wander through the Cathedral gardens for a change; as you might expect at this time of year there wasn't a great deal to see but that didn't stop me grabbing a few shots anyway. Art – Time
Some days there's nothing to see and some days there's loads and some days there's just one thing and it's puzzling. It was obviously "get out and about and do some art projects" day in Chichester as there was a painter painting nearby too but the highlight of the lunchtime hover was this pair of girls – I guess from Chichester Art College – taking part in a performance piece that involved them standing absolutely still, hand-in-hand, with headphones on (listening to the same thing based on their occasional reactions of smiling and sometimes looking very sad), staring at the clock on the face of Chichester Cross, whilst also holding another clock, and reacting in no way at all to passersby, some of whom photographed them, some of whom made faces from behind their backs, but most of whom ignored them. It seemed to me to be a piece about time (I'm smart, yeah?) and possibly about how we all don't really take the time sometimes to simply take time. I don't know. Interpretations welcome. What was most interesting to me was seeing and overhearing other people's reactions to the girls; there was a lot of eye-rolling, sniggering, pointing, etc. In this particular photo I managed to get a bit of a quizzical moment from the elderly couple on the right as well as a bit of mocking from the couple on the left who were being photographed by their other friend out of shot. Chichester Police Officer
Chichester still hasn't returned to its bustling best after the Christmas lull at the moment so interesting people are few and far between. A fellow street photographer and I set up in our usual haunt which today was in close proximity to a man selling hot chocolate drinks from a very makeshift stall (hot water, a tin of chocolate powder, a packet of wet wipes (health and safety is very important, of course), and not much else); the seller was pretty surly-looking which probably didn't help things much and in the close-to-an-hour that we stood, looked, and chatted we saw him make precisely two sales. There was, however, a brief moment of excitement when two police officers marched through obviously on the look for something; a minute later they came back – I would imagine after an unsuccessful hunt for something – and I was able to grab this shot.
