New Advertising Day
Needed to pop out this morning to address an issue of nearly apocalyptic proportions; our kettle had stopped working! Our! Kettle! Had! Stopped! Working! That meant no tea! No! Tea! We have a new kettle now; we spent the winnings from yesterday's Grand National on a lovely little beastie and the tea-related disaster has been averted. On the way back I happened upon this man putting up some new adverts along Copnor Road in Portsmouth. New advertising day! It's always exciting to see just what I'll be adamantly refusing to be influenced by over the next few weeks. Although what she's wearing does look nice. And it's available 24/7 apparently. And that's an easy name to remember. I'm not sure if this qualifies for #SignSunday curated by +walt sprinkle and +Gene Bowker but that won't stop me tagging them anyway because I'm like that. It's A Flower!
That's right: I sometimes take pictures of flowers. Even rarer: I sometimes have a reasonable idea what sort of flower I'm taking a picture of. This one: it's a pinkish flower. Almost certain. Google+: View post on...
Making An Effort
A struggle to get a shot of this couple thanks to the sheer number of people passing in front, but a lot to like about it. Your taste may differ. I enjoyed watching this young couple standing at the intersection of East Street with Chichester Cross yesterday; they were obviously in the early stages of their relationship on account of the amount of hand-holding, hand-rubbing, and eye-gazing going on, not to mention the complete obliviousness to anyone around them. I very much liked the way they held one hand up to one another at one point and moved in a mirror fashion, almost as if about to break out into an artistic dance. In fact I did wonder for a second if they were art students and this was simply the start of a piece of public work, but that didn't turn out to be the case. I liked her sense of style; there's something about that type of black-and-white hooped dress that screams Tim Burton to me, and I like it when things scream Tim Burton to me. I also liked the way she was standing here. It's a very elegant pose that accentuates the hourglass figure beautifully. I really, really liked that he made the effort and tucked his trousers into his stupid shoes. For #StreetSaturday , and for #PeopleAndLife (+PeopleandLife) curated by +Serein Lee. The Pizza Place
It was raining hard; the kind of rain that stings when it hits then washes away the tears that flow afterwards. But nothing ever washes away the criminals on the street. Except me. Some days. Only this wasn't looking like it was going to be one of those days. I'm a patient guy – you don't get anywhere in this business if you can't cope with waiting – but the rain has a way of soaking into the soles of your shoes and rising up to your neck even when you're under shelter and it can get cold and miserable pretty damn quick. My mark was over an hour late. And that neon sign over the pizza place wasn't helping my mood. It flickered and buzzed, it distracted and hypnotised. It's a dangerous thing to be distracted and I didn't realise it was Mickey Thumbs dashing across the street trying to avoid the puddles until he was almost on top of me. I slunk back deeper into the shadows and waited for him to dive into the restaurant then pulled my fedora down tighter and braced myself for the tailing that would hopefully soon start. Suddenly, there was a flash and a bang – a gunshot from inside! – and a scream from a woman! Action at last, but this wasn't how it was supposed to go down and I wasn't packing heat. I froze and it all seemed to go quieter than before for a second before the rain started coming down harder. I waited, but nobody seemed to want to come out of the pizza place. I had to know what was happening. I took one last look at the neon sign buzzing and flickering away, then stepped out of the shadows… For #FilmNoirFriday curated by +Thorn Button, +Kel Hayner, and +Paul Wright.
