Hands
I found myself behind an elderly gentleman today and was drawn immediately to his hands; he held them behind his body as he walked, gripping one wrist and playing with his fingers. I knew I had to get a shot and so matched his walking pace (by slowing down to a near crawl, naturally) and brought the camera down to hip level to get the picture. The shutter noise must have startled the old guy causing him to stop abruptly; I was chimping at the time and we collided. Physics took over and the conservation of energy transferred my forward momentum into his downward motion. Concrete met an elderly face in an explosion of pain and I couldn't help but feel a little at fault, though I swiftly tempered this guilt with the knowledge that had he had his hands out in front like a normal person he might have been able to soften the fall. Stupid old man. Google+: View post on...
Ventriloquist
I'm something of a prankster when I'm out and about photographing people, and I've recently started to learn ventriloquism because I've realised there's a gap in my mouth-based skillset that can only be filled by throwing my voice. This combination came together today as I passed the lunchtime period by pretending to be a visitor from the spirit realm enquiring as to the well-being of a group of pensioners across the road. They cried, I laughed. Google+: View post on...
Facehugger
You see them dotted around; little things, interesting-looking. You're tempted to get close but you shouldn't because if you do… BAM! You've got yourself a nasty case of the facehugger! They'll move fast and wrap themselves around you, incapacitating you with strength that belies their size. Later, they'll seem to fall off by themselves but inside you something terrible is happening, you'll feel a pressure welling up, and you'll know it's only a matter of time before you're a goner. Did I mention they have acid for blood? Yeah, they've got acid for blood too. Little girls. Google+: View post on...

Moody Fountains Abbey
Another new theme in #MoodyMonday for me, along with two new photographers who curate it, +Philip Daly and +Carole Buckwalter. Well, new to me, anyway. This is a low gamma, handheld, HDR shot – not something I normally do – and it's quite surprising just what sort of effect you can get with this technique when you consider that this was shot in the early afternoon with what appeared to the eye to be a mostly white sky with patches of light blue peeking through. The HDR image alignment isn't 100% accurate so it's created a few oddities in the image in the form of some wall edges ghosting but I'm not such a perfectionist that I'll worry too much about that. I also decided to leave the birds in, even though they moved between the three exposures because there are some weird effects there too and it just seemed to fit better with them.
