Parking Lot At Sunset

Parking Lot At Sunset

We needed to take a small detour from our weekly shopping in order to pick up some DIY bits and pieces at the B&Q store in Havant, just north of Portsmouth. Coming out some considerable time later (of course the sealant for the bathroom is in the painting section miles away from the bathroom section; why would we be silly enough to think otherwise?) I was struck by the setting sun silhouetting the trees at the end of the parking lot. And I suppose I can use this for #SunsetSaturday as curated by +TJ Kelly now, so that's nice. Must Suppress Apostrophe Rage

There are some people who say that language evolves and that we should embrace or accept its changes. I have no problems with new words coming into the language and I don't even mind some amendments to grammar occasionally either. However, there are some crucial elements that I think really need to be left alone and one of those elements is apostrophe usage. "Pair of glove's £5" This makes no sense. The plural of glove is gloves. You can have a pair of gloves. You cannot have a pair of glove; that's a whole world of grammar headaches right there. Subsequently, the pair of glove you cannot have cannot possibly have £5 of its own. And even if it did why would you broadcast that information to the world in the form of a sign? The only saving grace: at least this seller of gloves and pashminas is consistent in his dreadful use of the apostrophe. Google+: View post on...

Google+Blog WordPress Plugin

I've started adding a single, short line to the top of any posts I'm sharing on Google+ now, the reason being that I've started using +Daniel Treadwell's plugin for WordPress that duplicates posts into your WordPress system. Since I have a WordPress system and since I've been rather lazy about updating my site in recent months it makes sense for me to take advantage of this simple way to keep it all ticking over. The specific reason for the short line at the top of any posts is that this forms the subject of any duplicated content, and long titles bug me. I'm easily bugged. If you've got a WordPress site and want to keep it up-to-date and funky fresh (there's every chance that that's quite likely a hip term in possible regular use by "the kids" these days) then, having given the plugin a quick test run over the past few days (with just a few minor tweaks of my own to address some issues with theme compatibility), I can highly recommend it. Whether you regard my high recommendation highly is another matter. Link to the plugin site itself is: http://www.minimali.se/google+blog/ And finally, because I don't particularly like having posts on my main site without something pretty (or pretty awful; I'm easy on this point) to look at, here's a montage of a woman dancing in the street to the sound of buskers. No, of course it's not relevant. Google+: View post on...

Colours Of The Sky

A lovely example of beautiful HDR from Girolamo Cracchiolo. I've seen a few gorgeous skies recently but each time I've been in no position to capture them. This is the sort of shot that makes me jealous and inspired all at once. And what a nice thing to share on a Friday morning at the end of a long week. Reshared post from +Girolamo Cracchiolo Couleurs du ciel Today I want to share again with you this very impressive sunset. I took it last year in Sicily. It's a 3 HDR exposures (-2ev; 0ev; +2ev) tonemapped with Photomatix. From the Girolamo's HDR Photos site: www.omalorig.com Feel free to share if you like the photo 😉 Google+: View post on...

Brutalist Housing

Brutalist Housing

As the name suggests, Brutalism was a very stern, macho style that had a bloody-minded commitment to the principles of Modernism. Visually, it constituted a kind of ‘fossilisation’ of Modernism. The light, ethereal forms of Modernism were replaced with heavy, solid masses interlocking in complex, abstract patterns. The finish was deliberately harsh and rugged. A good article on brutalism, a style you either love or hate. I love it. Embedded Link Brutalist Housing The notorious architectural style known as Brutalism grew out of the rigorous principles of European Modernism and dominated British architecture in the 1950s and 60s. Brutalism gave us the 1960s towe… Google+: View post on...

It's becoming a habit, this standing opposite the boulangerie, taking a shot, then deciding it needs some Photoshopping later to make it look a little better. Google+: View post on...
