Walter

If there was a #WalterWednesday then this would definitely qualify. But there isn't. Today I decided to sit down on the ground to take some shots just to get that different angle and to get some steadiness in the picture-taking. Almost as soon as I'd got low this electric mobility vehicle came whizzing through the centre of Chichester. I got a shot before I had time to think and, after looking through the rest of the photos from today, it turned out to be the most interesting to me. Just to be extra different I then decided to have some fun (my definition may differ from yours) with the processing: three exposures created from RAW at -1.5, 0, and +1.5; Photomatixified (may not be a verb) to black and white; urban acid duplicate created and layered over the top with semi-transparent hard light. November Rose

It seems like ages since I shot anything other than street or urban photography and today wasn't supposed to be any different but the interesting people and interesting things were sadly noticeable by their absences this lunchtime. Still, as I was waiting for my colleague I saw this rose blooming from a bush by a wall and took the best shot I could in the dark and blustery conditions. A little desaturation and a few tweaks with Photoshop later… Google+: View post on...

A Few Street Shots

These are the pictures I took yesterday in Chichester. The interesting people came out in droves yesterday and I had my choice of the busker, the dancer, and the artist to pick from. I also tried taking a few shots from a much lower angle; these didn't turn out so well and I think I'm going to blame my poor, old knees for perhaps adding too much tension to the photos and introducing the shakes. Nevertheless, the first one in this album did come out okay and was taken from a crouching position. I did get a little worried that the woman who turned around at the sound of the shutter might be wondering what I was doing down there. As always in these situations nonchalance and disappointment are the photographer's friends: act oblivious, fire off some more shots, peer at the LCD or surroundings with a frown on the face, and pretend that there's nothing to be concerned about. Not that there was anything to be concerned about. In album A Few Street Shots (8 photos) Google+: View post on...

The Kneeling Artist

Hey! This can count towards #MonochromeMonday curated by +Siddharth Pandit if I'm not much mistaken. A busy lunchtime in Chichester punctuated by a lovely busker belting out some fine tunes. She was then joined by an old man who likes dancing to the buskers. They were then joined by an artist who sketched various parts of the scenery whilst kneeling in the middle of the precinct. I have photos of most of this but only time to upload one tonight so it'll be this one of the lattermost of today's entertainers. I liked this shot not only for the activity around her but also for the look she gave to the skies. Inspiration, or irritation? Difficult to tell. Google+: View post on...
