I found myself behind an elderly gentleman today and was drawn immediately to his hands; he held them behind his body as he walked, gripping one wrist and playing with his fingers. I knew I had to get a shot and so matched his walking pace (by slowing down to a near crawl, naturally) and brought the camera down to hip level to get the picture.
The shutter noise must have startled the old guy causing him to stop abruptly; I was chimping at the time and we collided. Physics took over and the conservation of energy transferred my forward momentum into his downward motion. Concrete met an elderly face in an explosion of pain and I couldn't help but feel a little at fault, though I swiftly tempered this guilt with the knowledge that had he had his hands out in front like a normal person he might have been able to soften the fall. Stupid old man.
