Up fairly early for a Saturday morning so that we can head off out to Portchester Castle today for a friend's birthday celebration; expect Roman fortifications to appear in a stream near you in the near future.
This is a shot from yesterday in Chichester, however, where they had their market day (every other Friday). This is a picture of soil sifters which are usually sold by a man who wears a hat with a feather sticking out of it; I've captured him before but not really looked at his wares with much conviction (partly because I've never seen him sell any, perhaps). Hard to believe – because I'm usually more of a shoot-first-think-about-composition-second kind of guy (must work on that this year) – but I did actually pay attention to rule-of-thirds for this shot. As the great philosopher Frank Spencer said: every day and in every way I'm getting better and better.

Oddly enough, these things for sifting through soil are called "riddles".

+Andy Turp Thanks for the local weather report; to be fair, windy and grey in January is pretty good in my opinion.
+Spidra Webster Always nice to learn something new; never heard them called that before.

Yeah, I think it's one of those terms that disappears as something becomes rarer. http://www.gardentoolcompany.com/soil-sieve-riddle-by-clarington-forge/
