New York – Macy's Window Display

While I like dark and moody shots it's always nice to see a bit of colour every now and again so I decided to take one of the pictures I'd captured of Macy's store in New York City on our first night there last month and give it a bit of a kick. Okay… I may have gone a smidge overboard with the processing now that I look at it again. Ah, whatever! Google+: View post on...

Wow! Best Photo Now

No, I'm not boasting; that's the caption on the photo album being shown off by the photographer touting for tourist business in Times Square, New York. But it's a Nikon! How good can it possibly be? Yeah, I went there. Kidding, kidding. Of course. We're all one big happy photographing family deep down. Google+: View post on...

New York At Night

I've finally started going through my New York photos, although I've barely started and don't really have much time tonight. Still, one of the first ones I came across I decided I wanted to play around with since it had so much of that busy quality that just shouted New York on our first night there. Once I hit some of the daytime shots I should be in a position to start pinpointing locations I've also seen in photos by +John Frenzel so there's that to look forward to over the next week. Father Carrying Daughter

I knew I'd taken a lot of photos in America but I didn't think it would take me this long to go through them. I'm about halfway through the initial pass of storing and ditching; it may take quite a while longer yet before I get as far as playing around and seeing what I can do with the ones I'm keeping. Anyway, before I get to the New York photos – where I went a little street happy (hoorah!) – I felt the urge to process at least one of the pictures kept so far and this is it: a father carrying his daughter (I'm guessing) after the holiday parade in Reston, Virginia on the day after Thanksgiving. Not a lot here; just a few enhancements to bring out some details, adjust for the contrast of the light and shade, and then warm it up a bit with a filter since it seemed a trifle chilly. America

Okay, so I've been back from America for a few days now and I've only barely scratched the surface of going through the photos taken. Jet lag and general catching up with life are combining to make this a long-winded process but I thought it might be nice to make it clear that the TSA didn't detain me, I didn't suffer a fatal reaction to Black Friday-related pepper-spraying, and the lure of life as an illegal alien in the land of big cars, big distances, and big fascination with texting people while driving (seriously, everyone did that; stop it!) wasn't overpowering enough to prevent me leaving. But I'm looking forward to heading back next year. You've got a pretty nice country over there. Google+: View post on...

Mannequin

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking: is that a woman carrying a naked, armless, headless mannequin through the street? It is. This will probably be my last post for a few weeks (and then expect a torrent) owing to an imminent trip across that there pond that separates the UK from the US. Washington, Boston, and New York await us and we're looking forward to seeing many highlights including Thanksgiving at first hand, the Patriots taking on Kansas at Gillette Stadium, a satellite due for launch next year being built, and even the delightful +Patricia Elizabeth in the flesh! Unless the TSA probing is too much to bear. Then we'll cry and come straight back. Google+: View post on...
