Coffee Hair
It was bright and clear today but the cold breeze from the northeast was a trifle unpleasant so it was no surprise to see a woman warming herself with a coffee in the sunshine. Luckily for me I caught her at the same moment as the wind did. Submitted for #MonochromeMonday curated by +Charles Lupica, +Bill Wood, and +Hans Berendsen. Google+: View post on...
Silver Boots
I had a bit of a look today for something that would fit in with the #ShoesMonday theme curated by +Olga Kafka and +Laura Harding and, truth be told, there were a few nice examples. However, If I'd tried to take those particular photos there's a very good chance it would have resulted in screaming, I'd have been set upon by an angry mob, and I'd be sitting here absently rubbing the still-sore PERVERT branded across my forehead. Chichester is not a tolerant city. And I'm not very brave. I did eventually chance a shot as a girl approached down North Street wearing what could best be described as "an eclectic mix" of clothing and sporting these rather in-your-face silver boots. Up And Down
Taken a couple of days ago where they have a market every other Friday I spotted these two men discussing something they could see on the top of Chichester Cathedral. At points both of their hands were raised and pointing but I liked this moment where one had his arm up and the other had his down. I've no idea what they were looking at or discussing but the apparent disagreement at this second appealed to me. I suppose that speaks volumes about my love of contrariness in general. Princess
It's the weekend which means I get some time to go back through some old photos and try out some new processing on them. I'm also going to submit this for #SaturdayStyle / #SAS curated by +lynn langmade and +lane langmade even though it doesn't technically fall within the scope of "fashion, design/décor, architecture, or art/photography" of the theme for three reasons: 1) I'm a rebel who doesn't abide by the rules (in my mind),2) Lynn and Lane are forgiving sorts (also, possibly, in my mind),3) It does represent style to me (now that one's true). This is the way to holiday (or vacation if you're American (but I'm not so it's still holiday)) in style: cruising. Every other day a new sight in some distant land interspersed with luxurious and relaxing days on the sea; swimming pools; live entertainment every evening; restaurant dining; formal nights; dancing (okay: not dancing) in clubs with ocean views; maids who tidy up your room ten times a day (yeah, what's that about?) and leave chocolates! This shot is from our honeymoon in 2008 aboard the Diamond Princess, cruising around the South China Sea and stopping at China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand. It was such a fantastic experience that, given a choice, we will always pick a cruise again for a holiday over anything else. In fact, since next year will be our fifth wedding anniversary we've already got funds set aside for our next big, stylish break, this time – hopefully – cruising around South America. Processing-wise, I've extended the tonal range of this shot, oomphed (note: may not be an actual verb) up the vibrancy a bit, and then hard-light blended an urban acid-treated copy over the top to accentuate the blues. Street Hug
A couple meeting and hugging in Chichester precinct. The angle and the slight lack of sharpness that I really like can mean only one thing: I shot this from the hip as I didn't want to spoil the moment. Actually, I shot a few dozen from the hip yesterday just to see what came out. The result? A load of rubbish came out. I think I'll go back to actually aiming and composing in future. Submitted for #StreetSaturday and since the "curating" of this theme seems nonexistent, as +Yen Nguyen points out here: https://plus.google.com/112738007753518252745/posts/9LL9QNnZr9C, I'll simply tag the new +Street Saturday group instead. Blast From The Past
Seeing lots of wonderful photos from decades ago turning up in my various circles has persuaded me to share one of my own. That's me in what I think we can all agree is The Most Incredible Fashion Styling Ever. I'd like to thank my parents for being colour blind and sadistic. As you can probably guess, this is the mid-to-late 1970s captured for posterity and as a warning to future generations.
